Updating your brand name and aliases
How to change your brand name and aliases in the dashboard, and how the change retroactively affects your monitoring metrics.
Last updated 23 days ago
You decide which names KI Score uses to recognize your brand in your monitoring answers. This article shows where to change your brand name and aliases, how to enter aliases correctly, and why the change also affects values for past answers.
Editing your own brand under Competitors
You maintain your brand’s name and aliases in the same place as your competitors. Your own brand has its own row there, marked with the Du (You) badge.
- At the top of the sidebar, select the website whose brand you want to change.
- In the Sichtbarkeit (Visibility) group, open the Competitors page.
- In the row with the Du badge, click the three-dot menu.
- Choose Bearbeiten (Edit). The Eigene Marke bearbeiten (Edit your own brand) panel opens.
- Change the Name field if needed.
- Enter alternative spellings under Aliase (kommagetrennt, optional) (Aliases, comma-separated, optional).
- Click Speichern (Save).
The Website-Domain (Website domain) field is locked in this panel. The domain comes from your website’s address and, together with its subdomains, counts as your own domain in Sources. You can only change it in the website’s settings, as described in the next section.
The brand in the “Website bearbeiten” dialog
You can also change the brand name directly on the website. The same dialog holds the website’s name and domain.
- At the top of the sidebar, open the website selector.
- Click the three-dot menu next to the website you want.
- Choose Bearbeiten (Edit). The Website bearbeiten (Edit website) dialog opens.
- Adjust the brand name in the Marke (Brand) field. If needed, you can also change Name or Domain here.
- Click Änderungen speichern (Save changes).
The Marke field is optional. If you leave it empty, KI Score looks for the website’s name in answers. You can’t enter aliases in this dialog; use the Competitors page for that.
Entering aliases
Aliases are alternative names or spellings of your brand, such as abbreviations. A mention under an alias counts exactly like a mention under the brand name.
- Separate multiple aliases with commas. For a brand called “Mustermöbel,” for example: “MM, Muster-Möbel.”
- KI Score removes duplicate entries automatically when you save, regardless of upper- or lowercase.
- An alias that matches the brand name exactly is also removed, since the name is searched for anyway.
Tip: To see which spellings AI systems actually use, read a few stored answers under Responses. Common candidates are abbreviations, spellings with and without a hyphen, or the name without its legal form.
Changes apply retroactively
KI Score doesn’t lock in monitoring metrics at the time of a run. As soon as you change your brand name or aliases, it recalculates them from the stored answer text the next time they’re displayed, always using the current brand and alias list. This has two consequences:
- A new alias is also recognized in answers that were stored before the change. Your mention rate and other metrics can therefore rise for past periods. You don’t need to start a new run for this.
- If you remove an alias or change the name, earlier mentions under the old spelling no longer count.
Figures you noted down or exported before the change may therefore no longer match the current values in the dashboard.
Note: The name and aliases on the Competitors page apply to your monitoring. The brand list for the KI Score market measurement is maintained centrally. Aliases you enter here don’t change how your brand is matched in the market measurement.
