Checking your website's KI-Readiness
How to start the KI-Readiness analysis, which checks whether AI systems can technically fetch, find, and understand your website, and how to choose the pages it checks.
Last updated 23 days ago
KI-Readiness checks whether AI systems can technically fetch your website, find it, and understand it from its HTML. This article explains what the analysis covers, how to start it, and what to do if it doesn't finish.
What KI-Readiness checks and what it doesn't
The analysis checks access and crawler permissions, discoverability, and content and structure. The page shows the results in three tabs: KI-Crawler (AI crawlers), Inhalt & Struktur (Content & structure), and Nächste Schritte (Next steps). It doesn't show an overall score. To learn how to read the results, see Reading your KI-Readiness report.
It always checks the website selected at the top of the sidebar. KI Score fetches the following:
- your homepage
- your robots.txt, sitemap.xml, and llms.txt
- a random path that doesn't exist, to test whether your website returns a proper error for missing pages (soft 404 test)
- up to ten content pages. Automatically, KI Score picks them from your sitemap or, if it has no suitable pages, from links on your homepage. Service pages take priority. Alternatively, you choose the pages yourself, see below.
What KI-Readiness doesn't do:
- It measures technical readability, not whether ChatGPT and similar tools actually mention your brand. The KI Score and your monitoring show that.
- It doesn't feed into your KI Score.
- It doesn't check your entire website, only the addresses listed above.
- It reads the permissions in your robots.txt. It can't reliably tell whether a firewall or CDN, such as bot protection, turns away AI crawlers. If some of the analysis's requests get no usable response, the Verlässlichkeit der Messung (Measurement reliability) check points this out.
The analysis doesn't use any credits.
Starting an analysis
The first analysis starts automatically after onboarding. As long as a website has no analysis yet, the page shows the notice “Noch keine Readiness-Analyse” (No readiness analysis yet).
- At the top of the sidebar, select the website you want to check.
- In the sidebar, open Optimierung → KI-Readiness (Optimization → KI-Readiness).
- Click Analyse starten (Start analysis).
Choosing the checked pages yourself
With Seitenauswahl (Page selection) in the page header, you decide which content pages the next analysis checks:
- Click Seitenauswahl.
- Choose Automatisch (Automatic) or Eigene Auswahl (Custom selection).
- For Eigene Auswahl, enter up to ten pages of your website, either as a path such as
/leistungenor as a full URL. Seite hinzufügen (Add page) adds another field. - Click Übernehmen und analysieren (Apply and analyze) to start the analysis right away with this selection. Auswahl übernehmen (Apply selection) applies it to the next start.
The homepage is always checked. A new selection doesn't change earlier reports.
How long an analysis takes and its status
Once it starts, the button reads Analyse läuft … (Analysis running …). If the website has no completed analysis yet, you'll also see the notice “Website wird analysiert” (Website is being analyzed).
An analysis can take up to about ten minutes. You don't need to reload, because the page refreshes on its own. The analysis keeps running in the background even if you leave the page. As soon as it finishes, the report with your results appears.
Repeating or canceling an analysis
After the first analysis, KI Score doesn't repeat the check automatically, and there's no schedule for it. Start a new analysis yourself, for example after you change your robots.txt, your sitemap, or the structure of your pages:
- Open Optimierung → KI-Readiness.
- Click Neu analysieren (Run a new analysis).
While the new analysis runs, the page shows the notice “Neue Analyse läuft” (New analysis running). Until it finishes, your last completed analysis stays visible. Afterward, the page shows the results of the new analysis.
To cancel a running analysis, click the X icon next to Analyse läuft … (Analyse abbrechen, Cancel analysis). A canceled analysis produces no result. The page goes back to showing your last completed analysis or, if there wasn't one yet, the notice “Noch keine Readiness-Analyse”.
Why an analysis can fail
An analysis fails when the technical check doesn't finish within about ten minutes or runs into a technical error. What you see then depends on whether a completed report already exists:
- No completed report yet: The page shows “Readiness-Analyse fehlgeschlagen” (Readiness analysis failed) with the message “Die technische Prüfung der Website konnte nicht abgeschlossen werden. Bitte starte die Analyse erneut.” (The technical check of the website could not be completed. Please start the analysis again.)
- A completed report already exists: The notice “Letzte Analyse fehlgeschlagen” (Last analysis failed) appears above your last completed report. The report itself stays visible.
In both cases, click Erneut analysieren (Analyze again) to try again.
A website that can't be reached, on the other hand, usually doesn't cause a failure. If KI Score can't load your homepage, the analysis typically still finishes and shows the problem in the report, for example in the Website erreichbar (Website reachable) check.
If the notice “Analyse nicht gestartet” (Analysis not started) appears right after you click, the analysis never began. This happens, for example, when your workspace is read-only because there's no active subscription, or when you don't have access to the website. The notice gives the reason below its title.
Tip: If the analysis keeps failing, contact support through Profilmenü → Kontakt (Profile menu → Contact).
