Setting up two-factor authentication
Protect your account with an authenticator app, save your backup codes, and turn two-factor authentication off again when you need to.
Last updated last month
Two-factor authentication (2FA) adds a second layer of protection to your KI Score account on top of your password. Once it’s on, every sign-in also needs a time-based code from an authenticator app on your phone. This article shows you how to set up 2FA, save your backup codes, and turn the protection off again.
Turn on 2FA
You need an authenticator app that generates time-based codes. The setting lives in your profile.
- Open Profilmenü → Profil (profile menu → Profile).
- Go to the Zwei-Faktor-Authentifizierung (two-factor authentication) section. Its badge reads Nicht aktiv (not active).
- Click Authenticator-App einrichten (set up authenticator app).
- Scan the QR code with your authenticator app. Alternatively, enter the key shown next to it into the app manually.
- In the Erster Code aus der App (first code from the app) field, enter the six-digit code your app now shows.
- Click Aktivieren (activate).
If the code is valid, the dashboard confirms “Zwei-Faktor-Authentifizierung ist aktiv.” (two-factor authentication is active). The badge switches to Aktiv (active), and your backup codes appear right below.
Save your backup codes
After you turn on 2FA, KI Score shows a list of codes under Backup-Codes jetzt sichern (save your backup codes now). According to the dashboard, each code works only once. Once you leave this view, the codes aren’t shown again.
- Store the codes somewhere safe that isn’t your phone, such as a password manager.
- Click Ich habe die Codes gespeichert (I’ve saved the codes).
Note: The dashboard has no option to show your backup codes again later. If you lose them, turn 2FA off and set it up again. When you reactivate it, you get a new list, and the old codes stop working.
Sign in with 2FA
Signing in starts as usual with your email address and password. Then there’s one more step:
- Open your authenticator app.
- On the Bestätigungscode (verification code) page, enter the six-digit code from the app.
- Click Anmelden (sign in).
The codes change at short intervals. If a code is rejected, wait for the next one and enter it again. Zurück (back) takes you back to the password step.
Turn off 2FA
To turn it off, you need your current password and a valid code from your authenticator app.
- Open Profilmenü → Profil (profile menu → Profile).
- In the Zwei-Faktor-Authentifizierung section, enter your password under Aktuelles Passwort (current password).
- Under Code aus der Authenticator-App (code from the authenticator app), enter the current six-digit code.
- Click Zwei-Faktor-Schutz deaktivieren (turn off two-factor protection).
The dashboard confirms “Zwei-Faktor-Authentifizierung wurde deaktiviert.” (two-factor authentication has been turned off). Your existing backup codes stop working at the same time. From now on, you sign in with just your email address and password.
Tip: While 2FA is on, KI Score also asks for a code from your authenticator app when you delete your account.
KI Score doesn’t offer other methods such as passkeys, SMS sign-in, single sign-on, or social login. Two-factor authentication works exclusively through an authenticator app.
