Adding your own prompts and using suggestions

How to create monitoring prompts yourself, add AI-generated suggestions, or import prompts from a CSV file, review them before adding, and choose their measurement countries.

Last updated 11 days ago

Prompts are the questions KI Score asks the selected AI providers in every monitoring run. This article shows you how to write prompts yourself, generate matching suggestions, or import many prompts at once from a CSV file.

All three options start in the same side panel. To open it:

  1. In the sidebar, under Visibility, open the Prompts folder and then All prompts.
  2. Click Add more.
  3. Select Add prompts.

The panel has the tabs Standard and CSV. The Standard tab contains the fields Topic, Type, and Country, with the buttons Add prompts manually and Suggest prompts below them.

With all three options, prompts are only staged at first. They're created once you've reviewed and added the staged prompts (see below).

The fields in the panel

  • Topic: The default is Automatic. KI Score then assigns each new prompt a topic when you add it, preferring one of your existing topics and only creating a new one if none fits. At most 50 prompts are assigned automatically each time you add prompts; any further prompts without a topic are created without one. If you pick a specific topic instead, all new prompts get that topic. Use Add topic to create a new one right there.
  • Type: Non-branded or Branded. The type only controls which kind of questions KI Score suggests.
  • Country: the countries the new prompts are measured from. The default is your website's country. See “Measurement countries” below.

Creating prompts manually

  1. In the panel, click Add prompts manually.
  2. In the Prompts, one per line field, enter your questions, each on its own line. KI Score takes the topic and countries from the panel.
  3. Click Stage prompts. The review opens right away.

Each prompt text can only exist once per website. Capitalization and spaces at the start or end don't count as a difference. KI Score skips lines with a prompt that already exists or is already staged. The message tells you how many prompts were staged and how many rows were skipped.

Tip: KI Score lets you include your brand name in a prompt. But a question that already names your brand makes a mention in the answer more likely and skews your mention rate. General questions of the kind your customers would ask show your actual visibility. KI Score recognizes from the text whether a prompt names your brand and marks it in the Tags column with “B” (Branded) or “N” (Non-branded).

Having prompts suggested

  1. In the panel, under Topic, choose the topic you want suggestions for, or leave it at Automatic.
  2. Under Type, choose whether the suggestions should be Non-branded or Branded.
  3. Click Suggest prompts.

KI Score then generates up to 10 suggestions. They're based on your website's details: brand name, website address, services, and the brand description, plus the selected topic. Suggestions come in the language you use the dashboard in, so in English or German.

  • Non-branded: general questions without your brand name and without your competitors' names.
  • Branded: questions that name your brand, for example about reviews, prices, experiences, or comparisons with alternatives.

Generating suggestions doesn't cost any credits.

Reviewing and staging suggestions

The suggestions appear in the panel under Suggested prompts. Read each one before you use it: does the question fit what you offer and what your audience actually asks?

  1. Click Stage next to a suggestion that fits. The button then shows Staged. Click it again to unstage the suggestion.
  2. Repeat this for every suggestion you want to keep.
  3. Click Refresh if you want a new set of suggestions.

Suggestions that already exist among your prompts carry the Added badge and can't be staged again.

Reviewing and adding staged prompts

As soon as something is staged, the panel shows a Review … staged prompts button. It opens the Review prompts view with a table of prompt, country, topic, and tags.

  • Click a row to change a prompt. In the Edit staged prompt dialog, adjust the text, topic, tags, and countries, and confirm with Apply.
  • Select several rows to set shared fields for all of them with Edit, or to unstage them with Remove.
  • Finally, click Add … prompts. The button also shows what the prompts cost on an ongoing basis: approximately per month based on your schedule or, without automatic measurements, per measurement.

New prompts are active right away and are included in the next run. On the All prompts page, a notice shows how many new prompts haven't been measured yet. Measure now measures only these prompts once with the AI providers in your schedule, and your schedule stays unchanged.

Each active prompt uses one credit per run, per measurement country, and per selected AI provider. A website measures at most 500 active prompts. Once you reach that limit, KI Score doesn't create further prompts and shows “A website measures at most 500 active prompts. Pause another prompt first.” Those prompts stay staged. Paused prompts don't count.

Importing prompts from a CSV file

To add many prompts at once, use the CSV tab:

  1. If needed, click Download CSV template. The template shows how the file is structured, with example rows.
  2. Drop your file into the Choose a CSV file or drop it here field or select it. The file must be UTF-8 with a comma or semicolon as the separator, at most 2 MiB and 500 rows.
  3. KI Score reads the file right away and stages the valid rows. The message tells you how many prompts were staged and how many rows were skipped.
  4. Click Review … staged prompts and add the prompts as described above.

Only the Prompt column is required. Country, Topic, and Tag are optional. Separate several countries or tags with “|”, for example “US|CA”. Enter countries as country codes. Without a country, your website's country applies. KI Score recognizes the column names in English and German (for example “Topic” or “Thema”, “Country” or “Messland”), and the column order is up to you. KI Score rejects a file with an unknown column.

KI Score skips prompts that already exist or appear twice in the file. It creates topics and tags that don't exist yet while reading the file. If Topic in the panel is set to Automatic, rows without a topic get one automatically when you add them, at most 50 at a time. For larger files, it's therefore better to set the topics in the Topic column. The import doesn't start a measurement.

Measurement countries

Every prompt is measured from at least one country, its measurement country. A prompt can have up to 10 measurement countries. Each country is queried separately in a run and costs credits like a separate prompt.

  • New prompts use the selection under Country in the panel. The default is your website's country.
  • In the prompts table, the Country column shows the countries as flags. Click them to open Edit measurement countries. For several selected prompts, the same action is in the bar for selected prompts.
  • A change applies from the next run.

The measurement country only sets the country. If a question should refer to a specific city or region, write the place into the prompt text, for example “Which tax advisor in Cologne is a good fit for freelancers?”.

If no suggestions appear

  • A “Missing: …” badge on the All prompts page: The badge, for example Missing: Brand name, Services, means your website is missing these details. Without them, KI Score can't generate suitable suggestions. Fill in your website's details and try again.
  • “No suggestions found”: Choose a different topic and click Suggest prompts again.
  • An error message while generating: Try again after a short while. You can always create prompts manually as well.
