What happens when you run out of credits?

Why a monitoring run doesn’t start without enough credits, which emails and notifications you receive, and how to get more credits again.

Last updated 23 days ago

This article explains what KI Score does when your credit balance no longer covers a monitoring run. You’ll learn which emails and notifications you receive, what happens to scheduled runs, and how to get more credits again.

Charged up front, with a hard stop

KI Score deducts a run’s credits before the run starts. A run costs as many credits as your active prompts multiplied by the selected AI providers. If your balance doesn’t cover that, the run doesn’t start. There is no overdraft and no reduced run with fewer prompts or providers.

When you start a run manually with Einmal messen (Measure once) in Zeitplan (Schedule), the button shows what the run will cost in credits. If your balance isn’t enough, Einmal messen is disabled and the dialog tells you how many credits are missing, for example “Für einen Lauf fehlen 20 Credits (nötig 60, verfügbar 40).” (A run is 20 credits short: 60 needed, 40 available.) No credits are deducted in that case.

Your existing data and your KI Score are kept. The KI Score measurement of your markets doesn’t cost credits and continues regardless of your balance.

Warning when credits run low

If a run takes your balance below 20% of your credit allowance, you receive the email “Ihre Credits werden knapp” (Your credits are running low). It arrives once when you cross that threshold, not after every run below it. The email shows your remaining balance, and its Tarif wechseln (Change plan) button takes you to the plan page in the dashboard.

In addition, the bell at the top right of the Scoreboard notifies you when 80, 90, and 100% of your credits are used, once per billing period for each threshold. If your credits are unlikely to last until renewal at your current schedules, a notification appears there as well. Everyone in the workspace sees these notifications.

Skipped scheduled runs

If your balance doesn’t cover a scheduled run when it’s due, KI Score skips that slot and deducts nothing. For each skipped slot, you receive the email “Geplanter Monitoring-Lauf übersprungen” (Scheduled monitoring run skipped) once, and a notification appears in the bell. The email shows the credits required and the credits still available. If you miss several slots, you’ll get several emails.

As soon as enough credits are available again, KI Score catches up on the run automatically. It runs exactly one catch-up run, not one for every missed slot. Because the scheduler checks every 15 minutes, the catch-up run starts a few minutes after your balance is sufficient again.

Note: If a website is above your plan’s website limit, for example after a downgrade, its scheduled run is also skipped. In that case, you don’t receive an email.

Getting more credits

You can’t buy additional credits in KI Score. There are no credit packs and no top-ups. You get more credits in two ways:

  • A new billing period: When your next period starts, your plan’s full allowance is available again.
  • A larger plan: When you upgrade, the difference between your old and new allowance is added to the current period right away. Enterprise comes with a custom allowance by agreement through sales@kiscore.ai.

To switch to a larger plan:

  1. Open Einstellungen → Billing (Settings → Billing).
  2. Click Abrechnung verwalten (Manage billing).
  3. Choose the plan you want in the Stripe customer portal.

Only the main account can change the plan. For an overview of the plans, see the plans page.

Tip: Until you have more credits, you can lower the cost per run by pausing prompts or selecting fewer AI providers in Zeitplan.
