Why isn't your brand counted as mentioned?
How KI Score detects your brand in answer text, which spellings count automatically, and when you should add aliases.

Sometimes an AI answer names your brand, yet your monitoring doesn't show it as mentioned. This article explains how KI Score detects mentions in answer text, which spellings count automatically, and how to add missing variants as aliases.
How detection works
KI Score searches the text of every monitoring answer for your brand name and all the aliases you've added. Only a match that stands as a word of its own counts. A brand called “Punkt” is not counted as mentioned if the answer only contains “Treffpunkt.”
To see whether your brand was detected in an answer, go to Responses and check the Erwähnt (Mentioned) column. KI Score detects your tracked competitors using the same rules.
Spellings that count automatically
KI Score evens out some differences on its own, so you don't need aliases for them:
- Upper and lower case: “HR WORKS” and “hr works” are treated as the same.
- Umlauts and ß: “ä” and “ae,” “ö” and “oe,” “ü” and “ue,” and “ß” and “ss” are treated as equal. “Müller” also matches “Mueller.”
- Accents: Accents on Latin letters are ignored, so “Café” also matches “Cafe.”
- Separators: Spaces, hyphens, and periods between characters are optional. “HR WORKS” matches “HR-Works” and “HRworks,” and “t3Macher” matches “T3 Macher.”
What doesn't count as a mention
The following cases don't count as a mention of your brand:
- Links and URLs: Markdown link targets, bare URLs in the answer text, and link texts that consist only of a domain or URL are ignored during the search. If your name only appears in a web address, your brand isn't counted as mentioned.
- Only in the source list: If your website only appears among an answer's sources, that's a citation, not a mention. KI Score evaluates citations separately.
- Other names: KI Score only recognizes abbreviations, former company names, product names, or clearly different spellings if you've added them as aliases.
Adding aliases
If an AI refers to your brand by a different name, add that name as an alias:
- Open Competitors in the sidebar.
- In the row for your own brand, marked with the Du (You) badge, open the actions menu.
- Select Bearbeiten (Edit). The Eigene Marke bearbeiten (Edit your brand) dialog opens.
- Enter the additional names in the Aliase (kommagetrennt, optional) (Aliases, comma-separated, optional) field, separated by commas.
- Click Speichern (Save).
Monitoring metrics are always calculated with your current brand and alias list. A new alias therefore also applies to answers that are already stored. Likewise, if you remove an alias, its matches disappear retroactively.
Tip: Only add names that clearly refer to your brand. A very generic word as an alias would also count answers as mentions that aren't about you at all.
Monitoring and the KI Score detect brands separately
Aliases only apply to your monitoring. The KI Score works with a centrally maintained brand list that you don't edit yourself. If your website isn't linked to a brand on that list yet, the KI Score page shows the notice “Marke noch nicht zugeordnet” (Brand not yet linked).
Aliases from your monitoring don't change this link. In that case, contact support, for example through Kontakt (Contact) in the profile menu or by email at support@kiscore.ai.
