Understanding Your KI Score

Does the KI Score measure tone?

The KI Score measures your brand’s presence and placement, not tone; you can analyze tone in monitoring.

This article explains whether the tone of AI answers affects your KI Score and where in the dashboard you can see how AI systems talk about your brand and whether they recommend it.

Short answer

No. The KI Score measures whether your brand is mentioned in AI answers and where it appears. Whether an answer talks about your brand positively, neutrally, or critically does not change the score.

What the KI Score measures

The KI Score combines two measures:

  • Mention rate: the share of answers that name your brand. Questions with recommendation intent count more than purely informational ones.
  • Position coverage: how close to the top your brand appears in the answers. A mention in first place counts in full, later positions count less, and no mention counts as 0.

Mention rate makes up two thirds of the score and position coverage one third. The result is a value from 0 to 100 per market. Citations, tone, and KI-Readiness are not included.

Tone as a diagnostic

In the KI Score methodology, citations, tone, and KI-Readiness are treated as diagnostics. They describe how your brand shows up in the answers, but they are not part of the score. Friendlier or more critical wording in the answers therefore does not raise or lower your KI Score.

You analyze tone in monitoring instead. KI Score does not offer a tone trend chart or notifications when sentiment changes.

Where you can see tone and recommendations

An AI analysis rates your brand’s mention in each monitoring answer as positive (praise or a recommendation), neutral (a factual mention), or negative (criticism or advice against it). You can see these ratings in several places, always based on your own monitoring prompts, not on the market measurement behind the KI Score:

  • Prompts: The Tonalität (Brand sentiment) column shows the shares of positive, neutral, and negative ratings per prompt as a bar. The bar appears from five classified answers.
  • Scoreboard: The Sentiment card under Overview shows the breakdown of all classified mentions of your brand in the period. The shares appear from five classified mentions.
  • Responses: The Sentiment column, which you can show when needed, gives the rating for each answer. Use Filter hinzufügen → Sentiment (Add filter → Sentiment) to narrow the list to positive, neutral, or negative mentions.

The positive share shows how often the AI explicitly recommends or praises your brand rather than just listing it. The separate recommendation rate was removed on October 26, 2026. The article What brand sentiment tells you explains what the sentiment tells you and how to interpret it.

Tip: To see how an AI actually talks about your brand, read the stored answers directly in Responses.
